Needlepoint WIP

I'd forgotten what a time hog this stuff is, but by cutting back on my candy crush habit, I've found time to make steady progress.

Adult- decorated sweatshirt, in progress

Flamingo time! Not sure what else I'll do here.

Toddler, decorated garment

Silly stuff here. Having a lazy day off, painted on some sweatshirts. This is the toddler size one. Bad pics, but the white on the unicorn is super reflective and you couldn't see any detail at all with the flash on. I think I'll put some rhinestones or something on it later.

Infant- day gown

This is a day gown, I think. Used vintage gingham fabric, with vintage trim- I threw a satin stitch in a curved v at the front to make a collar of sorts. Finished the back edge the same way. There are little rivets at the back opening for the ribbon.

Infant- sundress

Don't know what the judges will think of a black background print for a baby, but I think it's hard to beat the cuteness of gingham paired with cherries.

Infant- one piece outfit

Baby prison jumpsuit for wee cowboy convicts in the (south) West.

I think "heirloom"

I think it's pretty swanky for being the first thing like this ive ever attempted.

Infant heirloom? Day gown/saque? Formal dress?

Starting out with one of the "I don't even know what that is?!" classes.

Infant clothing. Figured that's gotta be an easy place to start- they're just tiny little things, their garments are small and should be quick to make, right?

Not quite.

I started by googling the class descriptions because I couldn't tell you the difference between a day gown and a play outfit even if my life depended on it. Unfortunately, that didn't help much. They all look the same to me..

Im not one to let cluelessness stand in my way though, so I started working. Reckon I'll figure out just what it is I'm making somewhere down the line.

WIP pics-
Blue lace heart appliqués and machine embroidery on gray cotton.
Front, collar lace side up.
Collar gray side up.. Haven't decided a winner yet.

Sleeve detail

Pin tucks- I knew that my machine could do 'em, but I'd never tried it this way before. I dig how they came out and how relatively easy they were.

What it is-

In 2012, I moved to Tennessee. At the end of that summer, I went to the state fair. Cruised around the creative arts building and said to myself, I oughta enter some things next year.

Then I forgot about it. Remembered on what turned out to be 2 days before the registration deadline- not much time to figure things out. I went for it anyway, and entered a few things I had laying around, already made. I won some ribbons! I'd forgotten the oh-so-powerful draw of ribbons.
Blue ribbon on my blouse.

Red on my men's shirt
Third for this recycled material shirt.
Another red on my costume.

I was delighted. Now, I've often said "anything worth doing is worth doing to excess"- that's where this blog comes in.

I'm starting now, and I'm gonna enter as many classes as I can next year. Some of this will be easy, as it's stuff I've made many times before in one form or another. Some of it will be new territory- things I've never even thought of making before. I think it'll be a lot of fun!
